Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles 2025: Dust, Grit, and a Sunrise Beach Finish By: The Flyin’Surf Crew

I In March 2025, the Atlantic breeze wasn’t just carrying the scent of salt—it was carrying the roar of engines. At Flyin’Surf, we are used to high-adrenaline sports, but nothing quite matches the electric energy of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles crossing the finish line. The morning of the arrival was one for the books. As we were setting up the school for the day’s first lessons, we heard the first radio reports that the “Gazelles” were approaching the final checkpoint. We paused the gear prep, gathered the crew, and headed out from the school onto the damp morning sand to witness the legendary arrival. The Ultimate Test of Navigation For those who don’t know, this isn’t a race of speed; it’s a race of expertise and precision. These incredible women navigate the Moroccan desert using only a compass and a map—no GPS allowed. As we stood on the Essaouira shoreline in the crisp morning light, we saw the first 4x4s and crossovers cresting the dunes. Their bodywork was coated in the red dust of the deep Sahara, a stark contrast against the blue morning mist of our bay. An Arrival to Remember The finish line was set up right on the beach, just a short walk from our school. It was an incredible sight: the rugged, mud-splattered rally trucks parked alongside the calm, turquoise waves where our early-bird students were just starting their warm-ups. We watched as the teams hugged, cried, and celebrated the end of their 2,500km journey. Seeing that level of determination and courage so early in the day was an inspiration to our entire coaching staff. Why the Gazelles are part of our Spirit At Flyin’Surf, we talk a lot about “Safety and Professionalism,” but the Gazelles remind us of another core value: Resilience. Whether you are navigating a sand dune in a Land Rover or navigating your first kite-launch in a 25-knot wind, it’s all about trust in your skills and your environment. We spent the rest of the morning talking with some of the teams near the port, sharing stories of the “Alizé” winds and the Moroccan terrain. It was a proud moment for Essaouira and a reminder that our beach is more than just a place to ride—it’s a place where legends finish their journey. Our Takeaway: To the women of the 2025 Rally: your courage is the same “Spirit” we bring to the water every day. We can’t wait to see the dust settle and the sails rise again for the 2026 edition!

Protecting Our Liquid Home – The Flyin’Surf Commitment By: Ibrahim, Ahmed and the rest of the team

AAs the 2025 season drew to a close, the Flyin’Surf crew decided it was time to give back to the ocean that gives us everything. For us, being a “Passionate Team” isn’t just about the hours we spend on the board; it’s about the respect we have for the ecosystem that makes Essaouira the most beautiful bay in North Africa. Under the warm November sun, we traded our kites and surfboards for a different kind of mission. Our entire team spent a weekend focused on the dunes. This is our “office,” and we believe it’s our responsibility to keep it pristine. A Community Effort What started as a team initiative quickly turned into something more. Several of our students and local friends saw us on the sand and joined in. There is a special kind of “Essaouira Spirit” that happens when you’re out there together, clearing the Atlantic’s tide-line to ensure the beach stays safe and beautiful for the next generation of riders. Why This Matters to You A clean bay is a safer bay. By keeping the shore free of debris, we ensure that when you’re running into the water for your first surf lesson or launching your kite, your focus is entirely on the waves—not what’s under your feet. Our Promise At Flyin’Surf, we believe that professionalism and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand. When you book a session with us, you’re choosing a school that truly cares about the future of the Moroccan coastline. We want the riders of 2030 to feel the same thrill we do today. Every time you ride with us, you’re part of a community that respects the wind, the water, and the wild beauty of Essaouira.

Gnaoua 2025: Where the Music of the Sahara Meets the Atlantic Swell By: Ahmed from Flyin’Surf

IIf you’ve never been to Essaouira during the Gnaoua World Music Festival, you haven’t truly seen the “Wind City” breathe. In June 2025, our whitewashed streets didn’t just host tourists—they hosted a soul-stirring sensory explosion.

As the sun dipped behind the Îles Purpuraires, the deep, rhythmic thrum of the hajhouj (the three-stringed bass lute) began to echo from the massive stage at Place Moulay Hassan, drifting across the ramparts and down the beach to our school.

For us at Flyin’Surf, festival week is the ultimate “Learn & Fun” experience. The 2025 edition was special because the Atlantic decided to play its own part in the symphony. The mornings were glassy and magical, with peeling 3-foot waves at the Second Pipe before the afternoon Chergui wind kicked in for the kiters. We hosted riders from Brazil, France, and Scandinavia who all came for the music but found themselves caught in that perfect “Essaouira Flow.”

The Magic of the Medina Picture this: After a three-hour session in the water, our students walked back through the Bab Sbaa gate, skin still salty from the sea, straight into a sea of colorful djellabas and the scent of burning sandalwood. We didn’t just stay on the beach; we took our guests deep into the heart of the Medina. We navigated the narrow alleys to find the hidden Zaouias (shrines), where the most authentic Lilas—the private, all-night healing ceremonies—take place. Watching the Mâalems in their cowrie-shell hats lead the dancers into a trance-like state is something you never forget.

A Fusion of Worlds The 2025 festival was a masterclass in “Fusion.” We saw jazz legends from New York jamming with traditional Gnaoua musicians on the beach stage. This mirrors exactly what we do at Flyin’Surf: we fuse modern, professional coaching with the ancient, laid-back hospitality of Morocco. We spent our evenings sharing massive tagines under the stars, talking about the day’s best jumps while the metallic clatter of the krakebs (iron castanets) provided the perfect soundtrack.

Our Spirit This is the “Moroccan Touch” we talk about. It’s not just a sport; it’s a soul-connection to the land, the sound, and the sea. The 2025 festival reminded us that at Flyin’Surf, we aren’t just a business—we are your gateway to the most vibrant culture in North Africa. When you ride with us, you aren’t just a client; you’re part of the rhythm.
