I In March 2025, the Atlantic breeze wasn’t just carrying the scent of salt—it was carrying the roar of engines. At Flyin’Surf, we are used to high-adrenaline sports, but nothing quite matches the electric energy of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles crossing the finish line. The morning of the arrival was one for the books. As we were setting up the school for the day’s first lessons, we heard the first radio reports that the “Gazelles” were approaching the final checkpoint. We paused the gear prep, gathered the crew, and headed out from the school onto the damp morning sand to witness the legendary arrival. The Ultimate Test of Navigation For those who don’t know, this isn’t a race of speed; it’s a race of expertise and precision. These incredible women navigate the Moroccan desert using only a compass and a map—no GPS allowed. As we stood on the Essaouira shoreline in the crisp morning light, we saw the first 4x4s and crossovers cresting the dunes. Their bodywork was coated in the red dust of the deep Sahara, a stark contrast against the blue morning mist of our bay. An Arrival to Remember The finish line was set up right on the beach, just a short walk from our school. It was an incredible sight: the rugged, mud-splattered rally trucks parked alongside the calm, turquoise waves where our early-bird students were just starting their warm-ups. We watched as the teams hugged, cried, and celebrated the end of their 2,500km journey. Seeing that level of determination and courage so early in the day was an inspiration to our entire coaching staff. Why the Gazelles are part of our Spirit At Flyin’Surf, we talk a lot about “Safety and Professionalism,” but the Gazelles remind us of another core value: Resilience. Whether you are navigating a sand dune in a Land Rover or navigating your first kite-launch in a 25-knot wind, it’s all about trust in your skills and your environment. We spent the rest of the morning talking with some of the teams near the port, sharing stories of the “Alizé” winds and the Moroccan terrain. It was a proud moment for Essaouira and a reminder that our beach is more than just a place to ride—it’s a place where legends finish their journey. Our Takeaway: To the women of the 2025 Rally: your courage is the same “Spirit” we bring to the water every day. We can’t wait to see the dust settle and the sails rise again for the 2026 edition!
